Uganda is a country situated in east-central Africa.
Geographically it is the size of Great Britain. Uganda is populated by dozens of ethnic groups. The English language is the official language, though most Ugandans are conversant in their tribal language.
Beginning in 1894, the area was ruled as a protectorate by the British, who established administrative law across the territory. Uganda gained independence from Britain on October 9, 1962.
