Meet Violet: With pain in her voice Violet shared “I was the lady who was nothing”. I had no income and could not care for my children. Everything changed when she attended the Women’s Empowerment Program at the Mbale U-TOUCH Technology Innovation Hub. With newly acquired entrepreneurial skills Violet wrote a business plan and submitted it to the U-TOUCH panel for review. She was awarded a grant and was able to start selling fruits and vegetables. With delight she proudly stated, “We are eating… we are living… I can educate my children… I can look after my children!” She concluded, thanks to a small mount of capital, confidence and business skills I have a successful business. She has ambition to grow her business so she can provide for more of her extended family, though she truly appreciates her progress when she said, “we are fine…very fine”.
Deborah founded U-TOUCH (Universal Technology Outreach Community Hubs) in 2010 and is Executive Director of the San Diego-based 501 (c) 3, non-profit organization while also registered as a Non-Governmental Organization, (NGO) in Uganda.
